Derbyshire's PCSOs attended an excellent event at HQ in Ripley which was opened by DCC Alan Goodwin and hosted by ACC Dee Collins. Around 150 PCSOs heard a number of presentations on performance, community engagement and intelligence, the PCSO review and other recent national publications. The question and answer session raised a number of important points and was an excellent opportunity for PCSOs to ask questions and provide feedback to the Force's executive. The PCSOs were all thanked for the invaluable contribution that they make to the people of Derbyshire and there was a really positive atmosphere at the event and plenty of smiles as well, in spite of some dodgy jokes from Derbyshire's head of Comms & Marketing, Jonathan Leach.
South Yorkshire launched their Partnership award at Niagara Sports & Social club. It was really impressive to see so many partners and police at an event first thing on Monday morning. After an opening speech by ACC Mark Wyman Alex Birtwistle (Home Office) and Stevyn Cogan (Met Police) outlined to benefits of the award system to problem solving and provided advice on the application process.
As you will see from my other article I had the opportunity of spreading the neighbourhood policing message a little further afield at the end of November when I attended the Strategies for Effective Police Stop & Search (STEPSS) conference in Fuenlabrada, near Madrid. Closer to home I am going to be saying goodbye to the A14 and seeing more of the A1 as a result of some changes to my region. Tim Peacock will be looking after Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex whilst I am gaining my home force Leicestershire as well as Humberside and West Yorkshire, so there are exciting times ahead in the New Year!
